Part of the Portraits of Greatness series. This readable account of Delacroix by Paul Hamlyn Books starts at the Paris Salon des Beaux Arts of 1822. The topic on everybody's lips was the new painting called "The Bark of Dante". It was by a new artist, a lean and nervous young man. One of the enfants terribles of the age who were determined to win their fame on the "field of talent". Delacroix asked and was paid 2400 francs for the painting. It is hardcover with dust jacket was published by The Hamlyn Company and printed in Italy, and the book has 130 illustrations, 60 in color.
